How Long Has Armodafinil Been Approved And What For?

January 5, 2013

Armodafinil is a relatively new drug and hasn’t been approved for very long. Read this report to learn more about it’s approval.

Armodafinili is a strong wakefulness promoting agent. It is the right isomer of modafinil – the original wakefulness promoting agent. Armodafinil has only been around for about 5 years – it was approved in 2007. Modafinil is almost a decade more older, being around for 15 years, as it was approved in 1998.

Armodafinil is purported to be stronger than modafinil because the right isomer of modafinil was apparently responsible for more of the effect of it. Armodafinil is also supposedly meant to have less side effecst, because apparently the side effects of modafinil came from it’s left isomer.

But many users of modafinil and armodafinil do not notice much difference in strength or side effects. Most people that have side effects with modafinil also get side effects with armodafinil. And those with no side effects generally do not experience side effects at all.

Armodafinil was approved for uses in narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnoea, shift work sleep disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness. A trial and study was submitted to have armodafinil approved as a treatment for jet lag but this was not approved.

Armodafinil and modafinil are also used offlabel. Some off label treatments are for ADHD and depression. Many people take modafinil as a way to improve their general performance.

Healthy people use modafinil to improve their physical performance, their mental performance, their cognitive ability and stamina. Many students use modafinil to study and many business people use modafinil to get more work done.

Armodafinil isn’t really used in this way because it is still under patent from Cephalon and is only available through a prescription. It is also very expensive, costing $5 per pill. Where modafinil in its generic form can be ordered simply and easily from the internet for $1 a pill from sites like this one.
